************************************

Prince of Persia is set in a land rooted in ancient Persian mythology, with the Prince finding himself caught in an epic battle between the primal forces of light and darkness—the god of Light, Ormazd versus his brother Ahriman, the destructive god of Darkness. The Prince arrives just in time to witness the destruction of the legendary Tree of Life, an act which threatens to plunge the entire world into eternal darkness. Manifested in the form of 'the Corruption,' a dark substance that physically contaminates the land and the skies, the Prince must partner with his new deadly companion Elika to heal the world from the evil Corruption.

A Frightening New Enemy and a Powerful Ally
As Ahriman, the god of Darkness is released so are his minions of monstrous slaves. The most dangerous and powerful set against the Prince is known as "the Hunter." Once a human prince himself, the Hunter was raised in opulent decadence and detached from the day-to-day world. His only passion was for the drama and brutality of the hunt, but soon passion grew to obsession. After killing every variety of beast known, he grew bored and too bold. Recognizing an opportunity Ahriman appeared to him and offered a bargain, a hunt against the most dangerous beasts the world has to offer in return for his soul. Foolishly he accepted and was transformed from man into demonic beast and was hunted by men from all over the world. His all-consuming rage made easy work of the hunters set against him, but also bound him to Ahriman for eternity.

But wherever there is evil, there is also a counter balance to it. Following the defeat and imprisonment of Ahriman, his brother Ormazd, the god of Light, left the world in the care of his servants, the Ahuras, guardians of the tree of life. The Prince’s new ally, Elika, is one of those guardians. Beautiful and mysterious she is a powerful AI companion who accompanies players throughout the game. Filled with an unknown power, she will be helpful in all aspects of gameplay, including acrobatics, combat and puzzle-solving as players quest to rid the land from Ahriman's corruption.

Save one of the best for last : Prince Of Persia

Prince of Persia has the standard jumping, acrobatics and Arabian flavor of past PoP games, but otherwise the game has no ties to former incarnations of Prince. It's an endeavor to breathe new life into the series. `Twas a noble adequate attempt, with a pseudo-open world style courtesy of the Assassin's Creed machine and the strongest focus on characterization to date, but no number of witty banter or half-hearted sandbox develop can recovery the game from its monotonous gameplay.

This is especially unfortunate because the platforming heart and soul of the game is quite fun. The controls have been criticized as too easy - the levels are almost never enchanting and even when they are, it's honestly impossible for your character to die - but that doesn't lessen the pleasure you feel after completing a series of honestly cool looking jumps. The controls are so streamlined even a novice can be executing fantastic sequences leaps, bounds and maneuvers without a second thought, while veterans will find the challenge of blazing through the levels at top speed an enjoyable experience. People have criticized the option to have your partner, Elika, recovery you from every failed jump, but never having to see a loading screen was a fantastic develop decision.

Where the platforming falters is in variety. You'll see every almost dissimilarity on every obstacle only a short way into the game, and because they're so painfully easy - even without the "can't fail" aspect you'll rarely miss a jump - the performance ultimately becomes mindless. Once in a while it's invigorating, notably when the game makes you feel as if you have to rush (a timer would have added a great deal of excitement to some of these sequences), but rarely is it whatever but more of the same.

This issue is probably exacerbated by the game's pseudo-open world design. At the start of the game a small handful of levels are available. As you develop through the game you unlock passage to more levels, all of which are interconnected in one seamlessly branching world. You choose which levels you do and in which order you do them. But the extent to which Prince of Persia presents players with an open world is deceiving. The environments are wide open and often lovely to see, but the openness is an illusion. The path through each level is always linear. The only option is the order in which you tackle the levels - and since the levels are all but same in style and difficulty, the choices don't honestly matter.

The issue here isn't that the levels are bad - in fact, a lot of the sequences are pretty dreadful - it's that there is tiny in the way of fun twists to keep the gameplay fresh. former games often incorporated puzzles to perform this. These served to break up the monotony of jump jump jump and forced players to engage their brain for a tiny while. Prince of Persia has all of four puzzles, two of them nearly same and coming within thirty seconds of one another. That's too bad.

Instead of puzzles to break things up in the middle of platforming, Ubi went with combat. And to say the combat is tedious would be an understatement. UbiSoft got lazy, forcing the player to confront the same four bosses (five if you count Elika's father) no less than five times each. Because some of the final battles are presented in multiple stages, you honestly end up in combat with some of these villains six or seven times. And it's always the same. Block, run through the same sequence of tired QuickTime events, throw a combo or Elika at them, rinse, repeat. Yawn.

If all this sounds harsh it's probably because this is such a "coulda been a contenda" game. You've got to applaud the endeavor at innovation by injecting an open world element, Ubi clearly did a lot of work to make these characters People you could like - though I demand the decision to go make the Prince and Elika sound like a combine of American college kids trading coffee shop banter - and the much-criticized "can't fail" develop ideas is honestly to the game's benefit. There is a lot to like here.

At the end of the day, Prince of Persia is a game that aspires to be something a tiny different than what came before, and that is to be applauded. That it falls short of its possible thanks to repetitious gameplay is unfortunate.
